Under My Skin (who made you king)

Posted by becky on March 24, 2011 in Soapbox Moments, To Make You Smile |

Okay, I consider myself pretty easy going. At times I over react (a little) but generally I let things go and build up before saying anything. But, there is one thing that really gets under my skin. You know the feeling, it feels like someone is taking a needle and pricking your skin then they have broken the surface entering into the untouchable cells of your soul. OH YEAH, the majority of us have our untouchable cells!

Listening to SARA BAREILLES – KING OF ANYTHING lyrics I can relate to the things that really get under my skin. In this post I will only share one thing about me (unknown to many). As the clock ticks, the thing that really gets under MY skin is when someone (well, anyone) says “If it were me I would . . .” or “I would have done . . .”. How in the heck do you know what you would have done, it wasn’t you!

Here I go, you can see (read) me on my soapbox. When I am on my soapbox I am 10 foot tall and bullet proof! WATCH OUT {I’ll do it with a SMILE} What gives someone the right to tell me (or you) what they would do? Now, as I share the lyrics of Sara Bareilles song, you will connect the song with my feelings!

THE LYRICS:

Keep drinking coffee, stare me down across the table
While I look outside
So many things I’d say if only I were able
But I just keep quiet and count the cars that pass by {remember I am keeping quite}

You’ve got opinions, man {or woman}
We’re all entitled to ‘em, but I never asked {I never asked}
So let me thank you for your time, and try not to waste anymore of mine
And get out of here fast

I hate to break it to you babe, but I’m not drowning
There’s no one here to save

Who cares if you disagree?
You are not me {amen}
Who made you king of anything? {really who made them king?}
So you dare tell me who to be? {or what to say}
Who died and made you king of anything? {Who?}

You sound so innocent, all full of good intent
Swear you know best
But you expect me to jump up on board with you
And ride off into your delusional sunset {of the way you think}

I’m not the one who’s lost with no direction
But you’ll never see.

You’re so busy making maps with my name on them in all caps
You got the talking down, just not the listening {always giving their opinion}

And who cares if you disagree?
You are not me {hands in the air AMEN}
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be? {or say}
Who died and made you king of anything?

Enough of that, do you get my point? Just enjoy the music video below and remember, our own opinions of a situation are fine but don’t make judgement on the actions of someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes!

Love you all, just another one of my soapbox moments!

xoxo

Becky 🙂

    Becky, I love this post. I have been going through something that everyone wants to explain away and say that people don’t behave a certain way in specific circumstances. I have tried to tell them that they don’t know how they would react if it was them and that every person does not react the same way in the same situation. We all have our way of dealing with things in life and who is someone else to tell me how I should react. Thanks for the post. I never heard this song before but love the part that says: “All my life I’ve tried to make everybody happy while I just hurt and hide waiting for someone to tell me it’s my turn to decide.” I have finally decided it is my turn to decide!! Now I will step off the soapbox you so conveniently left for me to stand on! Love ya girl!
